India V Australia Third Test Venue change is confirmed. Originally scheduled to be held in Dharamsala from March 1, it has been shifted to a new venue. The ground, which underwent a renovation recently, is not yet fit to host an international match. The new venue is yet to be finalised but those under consideration include Indore and Rajkot.
BCCI took the decision to move the fixture out of the venue after an unfavourable report from the board’s inspection panel. The panel visited the ground on February 11 and noted several bare patches on the outfield, which was re-laid recently by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association to install a new drainage system. Another deterrent was the fact that no cricket had been hosted in Dharamsala since the two T20Is between India and Sri Lanka last February.
The HPCA stadium hosted the two T20Is between India and Sri Lanka in February 2022, the last two international games at the venue. The HPCA then decided to relay the outfield and install a new drainage system.
Dharamsala has hosted only one Test so far – in 2017 when India beat Australia to clinch the series 2-1.
