India won by a margin of 168 runs against the Kiwis in a match which will be forever remembered for Shubman Gill. Gill has had a great start to the year 2023 and is the youngest Indians to score a ton in all three formats of the game. India Vs New Zealand at the Narender Modi Stadium was played out in front of a humungous crowd which included Sachin Tendulkar, Roger Binny, Jay Shah and the entire U19 Womens Cricket Team. In a way, Shubman Gill himself won by 60 runs from New Zealand. The Kiwis will go back home to contemplate and reflect on how they are going to make a comeback in the ODI World Cup 2023 in October this year.
India won the toss and surprisingly decided to bat in the Final T20 against New Zealand. This was despite the fact that dew would play a part in the later part of the game. Yuzi Chahal was left out and the pacer Umran Malik was back in the Playing XI.
The Indians started on the back foot with Ishan Kishan was sent packing for just 1 run off the bowling of Bracewell in the 2nd over of the match. It was Ishan Kishans third consecutive failure in the 3-match series. Post that the Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi smashed the Kiwi Bowlers all around the park to reach 58-1 in the power-play. Rahul Tripathi played a swift knock of 44 runs in 22 balls before he was held out in the deep by Ferguson off the bowling of Ish Sodhi. Tripathi’s innings was laced with lofty shots all around the ground.
The Shubman Gill Show
Shubman Gill reached his half century in the 12th over. Gill took 35 balls to reach this milestone. The momentum of the game was carried ahead by SKY who scored 24 runs in 13 balls. Shubman Gill was quick to reach his maiden T20 Century in the 18th over after playing a blitzkrieg innings. His 100 came in just 54 balls. Gill ultimately finished at 126 runs in 63 balls with a strike rate of 200 with 12 fours and 7 sixes. He took the Indian total to 234-4 at the end of 20 overs. Ferguson, Tickner and Lister were taken to the cleaners, all three giving over 10 runs an over.
Indian Bowlers Took Apart the Kiwis
The Indian Bowlers started in an awesome fashion with Hardik Pandya taking a wicket in the first over. Finn Allen fell to a wonderful catch to Surya Kumar Yadav. Conway was close to follow in the next over when Arshdeep sent him packing. Chapman then fell to a great catch, again by SKY. Umran Malik then came to the party as he castled the dangerous Bracewell with a delivery that sent the bails flying beyond the 50-yard circle. The Kiwi innings was soon wrapped up by Hardik Pandya who took 4 wickets, Mavi who claimed two wickets and Umran Malik who again had two scalps to his name. The Indians won by the highest T20 winning margin between two full member nations.

Toss – India Won the Toss and Chose to Bat First
The 3rd and the Final India Vs New Zealand T20 Match which is also a Series Decider will be played at Ahmedabad on 1st February. Hardik Pandya’s men will be keen to save their ICC Number 1 T20 Ranking Spot. On the other hand, the Kiwis have the perfect opportunity to extract some sweet revenge from the Indians who dislodged them from their ICC Number 1 ODI Ranking in the Series that went by.
After an easy ODI whitewash, the T20I format hasn’t been as easy for the hosts. While the death bowling cost them in Ranchi, their batting was under the scanner two days later. India got past a target of 100 with only a ball to spare. Arshdeep Singh bowled the 20th over again after facing some heat in the first T20I, but he did not make the same mistakes again. Hardik Pandya may be more interested in bowling his own quota of overs which do no good for the team. Umran Malik may be left out again in want of another spinner. The Indian top order need to pull up their socks in this Series Decider – India Vs New Zealand T20 Match.
When: Wednesday, 1 February, 2023 from 7:00 PM IST.
Where: India vs New Zealand T20, Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Ground Conditions –
It will be one nervous curator at the ground today. Like most Indian grounds, teams have preferred to bat second here but in the last couple of games here against England, India showed that it is in fact possible to defend targets here. That said, those games were played in March; this one could see some fair amount of dew though. The crowd at Ahmedabad is expected to be the 12th man today!
