The Punjabi Boys disappointed thousands, not only at the ground but also around the cricketing community. Flat batting was followed by uninspired bowling. The Gujarati Boys did not have much trouble in chasing the target of 153 down, with Shubman Gill leading the chase for his team. Gill reached his half-century with a lot of ease. Punjab Kings Vs Gujarat Titans IPL Match turned out to be largely one sided with Punjab not being up to the mark in any department. Hardik Pandya’s boys won by 6 wickets.

Troubling Question – Why wasn’t Livingstone drafted into the Playing Eleven?

Punjab Kings Innings Summary –

Mohammed Shami removed Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh on the second ball of the innings. Prabhsimran saw a ball shaping towards his leg side and played a flick but couldn’t keep the ball down. That was a second successive duck for the opener.

The orange cap holder, Shikhar Dhawan, fell for a soft dismissal. He was looking to go big from the time he took strike. Alzarri Joseph completed the catch taking a couple of steps backwards from mid-on to send Dhawan packing for his first single-digit score of the season.

Rashid Khan put a stop to Matthew Short’s adventurous time in the middle with a googly that the Aussie just didn’t read. He committed forward and watched the ball turn inwards and go through the bat-pad gap to crash onto the stumps.

Punjab End Well, But is it Enough?

The batting side made a poor start to the second half of their innings as Jitesh was nicked off by Mohit Sharma and Bhanuka Rajapaksa struggled to get going. 153/8 was an unimpressive total on a flat pitch even as Punjab managed 54 in the last five overs. It boils down to how they got stuck between overs 10 and 15, where they just couldn’t get going.

Even the 150-plus total was possible because Shahrukh Khan walked out swinging and was successful to get 22 runs off just 9 balls. Mohit Sharma made a fabulous comeback in the IPL to finish with a spell of 2 for 18 in 4 overs.

Gujarat Titans Chase Summary –

The Gujarat openers – Gill and Saha had made a fluent start to the chase. Saha was driving with grace. Pulling, top-edging and toe-edging them at his will. As a result, he had raced to 30 off just 18 balls.

Entered Kagiso Rabada. Cramped Saha for room with length and pace. He bowled the bumper that got Saha. The Gujarat opener seemed to have middled it but ended up finding Short at deep square leg. A hundred wickets in the IPL for Rabada.

Sai Sudarshan came in looking as confident as ever. He started with a boundary and along with Gill, they seemed to be having no issues in scoring at 8 runs per over at the half-way stage.

Shubman Gill was still out there but Punjab Kings pulled it back. Arshdeep Singh removed Sai Sudharsan and Harpreet Brar ended Hardik Pandya’s innings to push GT to 111/3 in 15 overs. However, Gill was in a different zone altogether. He’s scored a century for India in a T20I and ODI too. This was after he scored a double ton in ODIs last year. And now in the IPL, he began with a half-century against Super Kings and has brought up another one tonight. A glorious, lofted extra cover drive to get to the mark.

Gujarat Titans chased down 153 in the last over with some drama at the end. Tewatia was the man to hit the winning runs for GT.
