The Punjabi’s brought a different flavour to their game at Guwahati with the Top Order dismantling the famed Rajasthan bowling. Trent Boult, Asif and Chahal were all taken to the cleaners as Prabhsimran and Dhawan decided to toy with them. There were some stylish shots interlaced with some cheeky ones. Shikhar Dhawan, ended with a score of 86 in 56 balls. Rajasthan’s chase was marred by wickets falling regularly. It was Samson, Hetmyer and Jurel who took the match to the very end. Punjab Kings Vs Rajasthan Royals IPL Match turned out to be a close one with the visitors beating the home team by just 5 runs.

Punjab Kings Innings Summary –

The Punjab Kings started with a bang! Prabhsimran found his timing and was merciless from the start. He drove Boult on the up through covers and took on Asif. The young Kerala bowler was bowling at 149 kmph but was leaking runs. Prabhsimran picked up three fours and a six off Asif before hitting Ashwin for back-to-back boundaries. As a result, PBKS finish the Power play at 63/0. Prabhsimran reached his half century in 28 balls and boy he looked good!

From going at a run-a-ball 30, to a 36-ball fifty, Shikhar Dhawan finally found his range. First, a flat-batted launch over long-on to put the seal on an 18-run over from Yuzvendra Chahal. Then, a deft flick over the shoulder to pick off four more through fine leg off Asif. Followed by back-to-back boundaries off Chahal to raise his first fifty as Kings captain. It was Dhawan’s 50th fifty-plus score in the IPL, which puts him behind David Warner (60) and level with Virat Kohli (50).

It was an ordinary day for Yuzi Chahal but he finished his spell with a wicket in his final over. Jitesh Sharma was caught out in the deep, unable to get under the full toss. This was the 171st wicket for Chahal in IPL. He is now ahead of Lasith Malinga and in the second spot in the list of all-timers.

A lot of credit went to Shikhar Dhawan who accelerated at the end and helped Punjab reach 197/4 in 20 overs.

Rajasthan Royals Innings Summary –

The Rajasthan Royals innings began with a few shocks. Ravichandran Ashwin came to open the innings instead of Butler. Jaiswal hit a humungous six off Sam Curran on the first ball of the RR innings. And a soft dismissal for Jaiswal, in Arshdeep’s first over, to hole out to cover handed Punjab Kings an early breakthrough.

Much to the relief of the RR fans, Butler walked in next. His first shot was nicely carved as a drive to the edge of the cover boundary. Timing and placement was just about perfect.

Sending Ashwin to open the innings in place of Butler was an experiment that was bound to fail. After seeing off three dots, he swung through the line of his fourth. Dhawan took the catch quite easily, and Arshdeep was at 2 wickets for 10 runs in eight balls.

Samson Keeps RR Hopes at Bay

Samson came and Samson started to hit. He hit good balls through the rope, and he dispatched bad balls over it! Buttler did not look like his very best, despite making 19 in 11 balls. He loosely drove at a full-length ball from Nathan Ellis, inside edged onto his front pad, and the bowler rushed through to grab the catch near the batter. It was a big – big blow to the Royals chase. Samson was next to go; then local boy Riyan Parag and finally Paddikal, Ellis did not give much breathing space to the RR batters. He ripped through the heart of the Rajasthan batting core and put Punjab right into the driving seat.

Ultimately, a score of 197 comes with its own pressures and Rajasthan batsmen fell marginally short. Some last-minute heroics from Hetmyer and Jurel took the game to the end, but it was not enough. Finally, the Punjabi’s were able to pull off a win with the thinnest of margins of 5 runs.

Assam Gets its First IPL Game

The Assam Cricket Association had pitched Guwahati as an IPL venue to the BCCI back in 2018. But the shift of IPL to the UAE owing to the Covid-19 pandemic meant that Assam had to wait. The 40,000-capacity ground will finally get some IPL action as it hosts the first of Royals’ two home games here.

The hosts are fresh off a comprehensive win against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an away game. Their batting and bowling fired all guns. Half-centuries for the top three and their key bowlers all getting amongst the wickets went well for the Royals.

For the Kings this will be an opportunity to find some momentum which they have lacked in the past. They opened with wins in the last two editions but those were followed by losses. The Kings not being able to record two successive wins in the last two editions. With the top-order firing and a bowling attack that covers all bases, Punjab will be hopeful for a win. They are without Kagiso Rabada and Liam Livingstone for this game,
