It was the Clash of the Kings in the RCB Vs KKR IPL Match at the Eden Gardens. King Khan – Shah Rukh Khan was there to support his team and King Kohli was sweating it out in the field. A big ground, a packed crowd and the KKR batters – Gurbaz, Shardul and Rinku Singh went a little ballistic! The home team made 204 in their 20 overs, giving a stiff target to the visiting team which the RCB team fell short of.

KKR Innings Summary –

KKR had a bad start to their innings losing two wickets in successive balls. However, Rahmanullah Gurbaz was just exquisite. He hollered the Siraj all over the park, without a thought to the wickets falling on the other end.

David Willey, who came in for Topley, had a fabulous start to his bowling stint. He cleaned up Venkatesh Iyer and Mandeep Singh off successive deliveries in his second over. But Gurbaz was in no mood to let the pressure off. He got his first IPL fifty with a slog sweep against Karn Sharma. It was a vital half-century, coming off 38 balls.

Karn Sharma was the next man for RCB to do the damage. Again, consecutive wickets, and one of that of Andre Russell, for the leg spinner. This is why leg spinners are so badly sought after. Their stock balls are manufactured to trick the batter. They make batsmen think that they are hittable. But then the ball dips and pitches at almost exactly the worst spot and they turn – sometimes less, sometimes not so less, but always confusingly. The aimed six eventually ends up as a catch at long-off. Russell was hitting through the line, the shot had power, but he got caught at long-off instead.

Shardul’s Got the Moves

Shardul Thakur today was probably Andre Russell disguised as the Indian all-rounder. He went ballistic between the 10th and the 15th over. What seemed like a 150 – 160 score for KKR, went up to 204/7. He played 29 balls, to get to 68 runs. Rinku Singh supported him well at the other end, scoring 46 off 33 balls. They shall be getting a special pat-on-the-back by King Khan, the KKR owner, who had come with his daughter to watch the game!
